General Summary:

Duty First Consulting is currently seeking a research and communications professional to join our growing Strategic Communications and Integrated Marketing team. Our team members have experience in formative research, communication plans and strategies, building strategic partnerships, developing and disseminating materials, and utilizing traditional and nontraditional social marketing and communications strategies. Our clients are primarily health, healthcare, and benefits related Agencies and Departments of the Federal Government.


  • Conduct and moderate focus groups and/or interviews
  • Contact/manage focus group facilities and/or meeting locations
  • Review and/or write discussion/moderators guides
  • Write and/or review focus group notes
  • Participate in client calls and meetings
  • Support qualitative research activities, such as creating written materials and coordinating focus group logistics
  • Provide recommendations for qualitative research methodologies
  • Coordinate travel and logistics
  • Summarize findings and create research reports to influence the larger campaign. Present findings to the client and provide strategic recommendations based on findings.
  • Support other communications and research activities such as communications planning, stakeholder assessment, materials and marketing collateral development, and outreach

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Focus group moderating experience
  • Excellent oral and presentation skills
  • Experience conducting qualitative research and understanding of qualitative research practices
  • Fundamental knowledge of basic communications/marketing best practices
  • Strong communication and content writing ability
  • Strong communicator; outgoing and professional
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to work in team setting or independently
  • Strong work ethic
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally. Travel approximately 20 30%
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in the US for any employer as sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • Ability to obtain a US government security clearance
  • Preference will be given to qualified Veteran candidates

Education and Experience:

  • Previous experience moderating many focus groups and/or focus group moderating certification
  • Bachelor's degree required preferably in communication, marketing, public relations, or related field
  • 2 - 4 years of professional experience
  • Prefer previous IRB experience
  • Prefer experience or internship working for a PR / Marketing Agency, Nonprofit, Association, Foundation, health or healthcare organization, University, Government, and / or a government contractor
  • Prefer experience or internship with planning, developing, and implementing marketing/public relations activities, including developing communications plans, strategies, messages, and tactics as part of an outreach or education campaign
